On July 11, 2025, the medical community of Uzbekistan suffered a great loss — Professor Dmitriy Lvovich Arustamov, one of the founders of modern urology in the country and a distinguished professor of the Department of Urology at Tashkent State Medical University, passed away.
Professor Arustamov was born on April 29, 1942, in Samarkand. He graduated from the Samarkand State Medical Institute in 1966 and began his career in general surgery. In 1968, he successfully defended his PhD thesis and dedicated his life to the field of urology.
From 1978 to 2007, he served as the head of the Department of Urology at Tashkent State Medical University (formerly Tashkent Medical Academy). Under his leadership, the department became one of the leading scientific and practical centers of urology not only in Uzbekistan but also in Central Asia.
Throughout his career, Professor Arustamov:
Authored more than 250 scientific articles, monographs, and methodological guidelines;
Established a scientific school in urological surgery, urolithiasis, oncourology, and andrology;
Supervised dozens of PhD and doctoral dissertations;
Earned recognition as a mentor and educator for many generations of urologists.
He was awarded the honorary title of Honored Scientist of Uzbekistan and received several state awards for his contributions.
Professor Dmitriy Lvovich Arustamov will be remembered not only for his scientific achievements but also for his humanity, dedication to his students, and lifelong service to medicine. His legacy lives on through his students, scientific works, and the urological school he created.
His name will forever remain in the history of Uzbek medicine written in golden letters.
